Chester Summer Basketball Growing
No coaches, no practices, just games! The program was developed to promote individual skills development in an uninhibited environment by allowing players to self-organize and run their own teams with every player included in the game.
The league started in 2006 with forty 7th and 8th grade boys from Chester and Mendham and last year had over 400 boys and girls from nineteen towns. The program includes 8 one-hour evening games (Mondays-Thursdays) beginning June 20th through the end of July ending with All Star games and league championship games for each division. Games are played on outdoor courts in Chester. Games are officiated by high-school aged referees but are player-coached to promote confidence and help kids develop their own strategic game plans. Parent coaching is strongly discouraged.
This year the $85 registration fee includes a team shirt, 8 regular games, playoff and all-star games.
DIRECTIONS TO COURTS Games will be played at the following locations:
BRMS #1 and BRMS #2 are the two outdoor courts immediately behind Black River Middle School in Chester. Directions to BRMS
Black Riv Indoor - Indoor court at Black River Middle School - Use directions above
Bragg School #1 and Bragg School #2 are the two outdoor courts outside of BRAGG School (far right side of school). Directions to BRAGG School
Grove Street Park From Main St. (Route 24) in Chester at the Publick House and Pleasant Pools, turn onto Grove Street on Pleasant Pools' side of the street. The park is just past Maple Ave on the right.
